Cocktails, fashion and oysters – this is how Southland does fashion

Cocktails will be flowing on Friday night as we kick off the weekend with a Fashion Extravaganza.

The Ascot Park Hotel will be showcasing an event of the latest trends from local boutiques.

To keep the cocktails flowing we can count on VnC Cocktails who are supporting the event.

As we sip away on our cocktails and oogle over the fashion we can feel good that it’s for a great cause.

The occasion is a fundraiser for the Conductive Education Southland.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from Posh, A Little Bit Cheeky, Voyant, Not Just Shoes. Or call the organiser Lisa Bartley on 027 2230824.

Then on Saturday it’s the world famous Bluff Oyster & Food Festival.

I’m such an oyster fan and when I was living in Sydney would read about this festival and be soooooo jealous.

But there was no way I was gonna travel to Bluff in the middle of winter.

However, since I was living here last year, I was there with bells on, and OMG they have a fashion show.

This fashion show is like no-other I have ever seen.

It’s called the Bluff Oyster Sack Fashion Parade and has a Foveaux Fantasy category.

The Bluff Oyster Sack Fashion Parade requires designers to create their garments from the humble Oyster Sack while the Foveaux Fantasy is an unrestricted wearable art contest allowing the use of any materials.

Last year Marcus Lush was the host and it was amazing to see what people could create from a humble oyster sack.

The festival is such an experience and the food was a seafood lover’s dream.

It was the highlight of my year to be out in the freezing cold eating raw oysters and drinking wine.

See you there.

Party like an animal this weekend

Shoe: Jimmy Choo. Style: Quito

The new Jimmy Choo heels are sure to have you dancing like a stylish party animal this weekend.

They are a shaded exotic snake with a crossover strap and sell on their website for about 850 pounds.

Snake skin is always popping up in fashion and I have never been much of a fan.

Let’s face it, snakes and I just don’t get along. So I kinda cringe whenever I see the slippery animal’s skin slapped on a fashion item.

However, these shoes have just won me over.

Anyhow back to the partying – dance up a storm this weekend and have a drink for me.

Vote For Annah Mac – In The JuiceTV Awards 2010

Southland musician Annah Mac has been nominated in the 2010 JuiceTV Awards.

Annah is up to win the award for Best Break Thru Video with her single Focus.

The award is given to the artist with the most votes and she will have to beat The Earlybirds, Dukes, Ivy Lies, Kidz In Space and Lisa Crawley.

I have written about Annah several times before as I think she is extremely talented.

She won her first Gold Guitar when 9-years-old and last year at the age of 18 she was signed to Sony BMG for a four album recording contract.

Trend: The Digital Print – Dion Lee – Australian Fashion Week

Photo: Vogue.com.au

Fashion Designer Dion Lee showed a stunner of a collection at Australian Fashion Week.

He was a stand-out last year and again showed his strength as a designer who can deliver strong collections.

This year his show was held inside the Opera House and the day could not have been more stunning.

Except for the few fashionista’s who were stuck in the direct sunlight – holy sunscreen.

Anyhow back to the fashion, his digital printing on some of the garments is what had everybody talking.

These clothes will be hitting the shops for summer 10/11.

Last night Alex Perry delivered one of the biggest fashion extravaganzas Australian Fashion Week has seen in years.

The Arabian Princess themed-show delivered dresses that will be seen on the red carpets of the world.

Models worked the 130m catwalk with high hair and it was all about showing off sexy cleverage with plenty of sparkle.

It is reported he spent $200,000 on the show which is certain to cement his name as the glamour designer of Australia.

He has become a popular choice with celebrities who can pay $30,000 for a custom made Alex Perry gown.
